A severe case of toothache is when it lasts for two days. It totally depends upon the cause of tooth ache that either it is a swollen gum that is hurting you or some bacterial infection or is a rotten tooth

Diagnosis of toothache

Pain in teeth that progresses for more than two days is the case that when diagnosed need an immediate treatment. In today’s world, everything is quick and treatable. So; dentists easily diagnose the causes of toothache and treat it completely.

Tooth X-ray is being done to diagnose it. If a toothache is because of cavities than these are filled and Root canal treatment is done if the pulp of the tooth is being infected by some bacteria or infection.

The dentist will check out your teeth with the help of a tool named as Explorer to check the cavities, pits or other problems in your teeth but if explorer forcefully hits your teeth, than it will cause enamel damage and  if you have infected teeth than  it will spread infection but no need to worry because proper usage of explorer or any teeth related tools is quite safe and normal but you must make sure that you are going to a good dentist which has expertise in this field and has good hygienic conditions of his tools in order to prevent tool infections and diseases.

Another method irrespective of tools is the stain technique or so called liquid dye method. In this technique, dentist brush the patient teeth with the non toxic liquid stain or dye and then rinse the dye off from teeth by the help of water. All the dye will be rinsed off from all your teeth except for the areas which have cavities or decayed areas. So, retaining of color in these areas will easily identify the damaged or infected portion of teeth.

Prevention of toothache

Prevention is the best thing to do to avoid all problems; all diseases.Everyone should know the importance of prevention because prevention is better than cure. Every literate person has a good knowledge of how to maintain his personal hygiene and do prevention measures to avoid health issues. So, just the knowledge of everything is not important but taking a practical step on it is the main thing. Many people ask about How to Get Rid of Toothache, but Prevention is always better than cure. So, in order to avoid or prevent a toothache you should do the following things:

Flossing to prevent toothache

Flossing is the cleansing of your mouth with plenty of water by moving it to every corner of your mouth to remove every single little stucked piece in your mouth or teeth. Flossing is very mush important for your oral health. It is recommended by dentists that you should do flossing after every meal and this is must, after you eat some sweetened products like cakes, sweets, biscuits, chocolates or other bakery items. If you sleep at night without flossing than pH of your saliva changes and normal flora of your mouth get disturbed and it start decaying small stucked food particles in mouth which produces a very bad mouth odour and also damages the teeth. So, flossing is very essential and consumes no time, so we must make it a habit to remain free from problems like toothache.

Brushing to prevent toothache

Brushing is as important as flossing but it is better than flossing, because in flossing some food particles stay in the mouth and brushing removes than properly. It is recommended to do brush twice a day, before dinner and after breakfast. You can do thrice if you want but two times in a day is very much important and essential. For this purpose you can take a toothbrush with a zic-zac alignment and soft bristles so that it cleans every single tooth and you can be fearless and enjoy a bright smile. Also choose a toothpaste rich in fluoride and salt that make teeth brighter and shinier by protecting its outer covering, enamel.

Good oral health to prevent toothache

Although it is quite obvious that good oral health is achieved by flossing and brushing but let me tell you that you can also use flossing solutions other than water, also you can use mouth fresheners in order to prevent bad smell, bacterial action and decay process. You must have to know that taking anything extreme hot or cold, in other words food items above from your body temperature badly damages your teeth and body veins also .So, avoid taking extreme temperature foods and totally eliminate the habit of ice chewing from your life because some people have this bad habit that give them worse results like toothache.

Other complications associated with toothache

Dental carries

Tooth decay is termed as dental carries, medically. This is because of acid erosion of enamel. Some bacteria convert the stucked sugar in mouth to acids that erodes the teeth enamel and it gives a very bad appearance. These bacteria are sticky and when accumulate together, called as plaques or colorless gummy bacterial colonies. This case becomes very much severe and painful if enamel is so much lost that carries penetrate inside the tooth pulp and reach to the base of the tooth and bacteria inside causes inflammation also which is the worst pain ever. At initial stages it does not cause pain but hurts badly after complete erosion loss and complete penetration of carries when the patient teeth become very sensitive to cold and hot temperature. Dental carries can be treated depending upon its progression, they can be easily filled if they are severe but in severe case of dental carries other treatments are given. So these treatments;

  • Fillings
  • Crowns
  • Root canal treatment

In this treatment, roots (nerves) of tooth are also damaged but it is common in this treatment, your dentist will remove the damaged nerves completely and fill that whole area or crown it.

  • Pulling out teeth

When there is so much damage in tooth that filling or other treatment is of no use that tooth is extracted out and this is the only solution sometimes.

Cavities are not same as tooth decay

Tooth decay and cavities, these both are not same according to doctors but tooth decay leads towards the cavities formation. Plaques when form a film like spongy covering, that protects it from being destructed and continue releasing its acids that gradually keep destroying tooth enamel and eventually a hole generated in the teeth that is named as a cavity. In the decaying process, before the starting of cavity, a whitish spot occurs that is visible, when you see it, you must have to take a fast or immediate treatment. Liquid plastic sealants are also used to stop bacterial activity.

Supragingival biofilm

Dental plaque formations between the pits and groves of teeth and especially above the gums are called as Supragingival biofilm. Mostly aerobic bacterium (bacteria that needs oxygen to survive and grow) lives inside these biofilm but if they are not handled with in time, an-aerobic bacteria also starts residing inside these films.

Sub gingival biofilm

After Supragingival biofilm has been developed, bacteria start growing and moving towards the lower side. So sub gingival biofilm is located below the gums. This plaque is consisted or large number of aerobic bacteria that do not require oxygen for their growth and progression but can survive best in absence of oxygen.

Periodontal disease

Periodontal disease is also named as gingivitis or in simple words gum disease. These both terms are almost the same; gingivitis is the less severe form than Peridontol disease. Gums become very weak and sensitive, swollen and red colored. This is also due to poor oral hygiene or using the brush with hard bristles. So, when you choose your manual or electric tooth brush, try to take one with soft bristles and use it softly not vigorously. Gum diseases can easily be cured by taking precautionary measures and immediate treatment.
